About the PI – Dr. Weiqiang (Javier) Chen, PhD

Dr. Weiqiang (Javier) Chen is Assistant Professor of Viral Immunopathogenesis at the Lee Kong Chian School of Medicine (LKCMedicine), Nanyang Technological University (NTU). He leads the JChen Lab, investigating how viruses disrupt bone and musculoskeletal systems and cause neurological complications. His work, recognized with the National Institute of Dental and Craniofacial Research (NIH NIDCR) Pathway to Independence (K99/R00), NIH NIDCR R01, F. Merlin Bumpus Junior Investigator Award, and Catalyst Grants, combines molecular virology, immunology, and disease modeling to uncover mechanisms and develop strategies to prevent and treat virus-induced diseases. Javier welcomes curious students, postdocs, and collaborators to join his team and explore the frontiers of viral pathogenesis.

Sai Aakarsha Saridey

Undergraduate Student

Sai is a 4th year biology major at CWRU who joined the lab in the spring of 2023. Her work in the JChen lab encourages her to better understand our immune system in the face of viral infections. She believes that this lab will play a major role in her future education and success. In her free time, Sai loves exploring Cleveland and trying new food!
